Biography

Dr. Jim Yih-Jin Young received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the 

National Taiwan University in 1987. He came to the United States to obtain his master and Ph.D.  in Sociology at the University Of Washington, Seattle, Washington. After graduation from University of Washington, he taught there for two years. He is currently a professor of sociology at Nassau Community College, Garden City, New York. He also teaches adjunct courses at Suffolk County Community College, Brentwood, New York.

 

Dr. Young’s biography has been included in the Marquis Who’s Who in America 2010 (the directory The New York Times called “that venerable guide to American achievement”). In 2008, his biography was included in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He co-authored Hands on Sociology with Dr. William Feigelman (3rd edition, Allyn and Bacon), and has published in professional Journal as well as in Encyclopedia of Sociology. 

 

He has had extensive involvement with community services. He served as the Advisor of the Taiwanese American Association on Long Island (TAALI) from 2007 to 2009 and was the President of the TAALI in 2007 and vice President in 2006. 

 

He has been a Board member of the Suffolk County Executive’s Asian American Advisory Board (SCAAAB) since 2005. He served as the Chair of the Board between 2007 and 2009. Currently he is the Emeritus Chair of the Board. In addition, he holds the title of Treasurer for AAAB. In addition, he has been appointed an Honorable position of of Coordinator by Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, R.O.C Minsters Yin-Yi Wu and Fu-Mei Chang since 2007. He joined the Board of Director for Wellbrook Foundation since March 2010.
